Custer State Park, Needles Highway & Buffalo

Fun fun day! Custer State Park has a Wildlife Loop & we saw several animals but the best were the many buffalo! Daddy’s, Mamas & several babies!

The tunnels along the Needles Highway are so cool! In our big truck we had to fold our mirrors in & no problem!! One of the tunnels on Iron Mountain Rd frames Mt Rushmore as you go through it!! Just awesome! 😎

We went through the little town of Keystone again & it is just darling!! Have I said how much we love it here??? 😍 Still so much more to see in this area!

Hope you all are Living your Dream! Keep Jesus at the center of it!!

Until next time….

South Dakota Air & Space Museum at Ellsworth AFB

This was the first day for awhile since we ventured out. We’ve been having major thunderstorms which we love!! So today before it started storming again we went to the South Dakota Air & Space Museum! It was awesome!!

You feels such Patriotism when you see these planes & helicopters that have served in our wonderful military. We saw several service men & women & we always thank them for their service to protect our beautiful America πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Here’s some pics of the planes we saw today!! God Bless America! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Bear Country USA, Keystone, South Dakota

This was so much fun! We were transported back in time when we went to the zoo with our folks as kids….but even better!!

This is a Wildlife Drive-Thru Park. Elk, Reindeer, Big Horned Sheep, Bison, Antelope, Timberwolves & BEARS!! Lots & lots of BEARS!!

Mostly Black & Reddish Bears. They were so awesome! They tell you at the beginning to NOT open your windows!! Wow!! They would be right up against the truck. Pacing back & forth & not having a care in the world but just to keep traffic backed up!! They were so big & frisky with each other. It’s so great to see them have so much room to roam with burrowed areas, water to swim in & trees to climb.

It was worth the $15 ea (senior) price!! We loved it & were able to get some great pics!! Until next time BEARS!!

At the end there’s an area you can walk around that has baby animals!! The Bear cubs were the cutest!! Great time! Don’t miss it if you’re ever in the area!!

Canyon Lake Park

Today’s excursion was to Canyon Lake Park! It was so serene & beautiful! Fun to see a gaggle of geese with their babies! Mallards πŸ¦† with their little family also enjoying the water. Kayakers were in the water fishing from them with no results 🎣 πŸ˜₯. People were out in paddle boats too! 🚣 We sat on the bank taking it all in!

We brought our lunch for a picnic & just enjoyed the day! We are loving Western South Dakota! It’s pretty amazing!! 😎

Chapel in the Hills

Rapid City, South Dakota!! We are loving our time here!! We still have a month to go!! Such a beautiful State! We have had a couple of Thunderstorms & we are loving them!! It’s been awhile since I’ve seen lightning & heard the thunder!!

South Dakota is a great place!! Enjoying every minute here!! Today we went to Chapel in the Hills & it was just breathtaking!!

A little info from Wikipedia about the Chapel!
The Chapel in the Hills was dedicated on July 6, 1969, as the home for the radio ministry of Lutheran Vespers. Lutheran Vespers were broadcast nationwide from this location in the Black Hills. The church is a special ministry of the South Dakota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
The Chapel in the Hills is an exact replica of the Borgund stave church in Norway. The Borgund stavkirke was built around the year 1150 and is considered the most completely preserved stave church still standing in Norway.
The Norwegian Department of Antiquities provided a set of blueprints of the Borgund church to be used in the construction of the Chapel in the Hills. The woodcarvings resulted from the combined effort by Norwegian woodcarver Erik FridstrΓΈm and Rapid City resident, Helge Christiansen.
The site includes an authentic log cabin museum that was built in 1876 by Edward Nielsen, a Norwegian immigrant gold prospector from Hole, Ringerike, Norway. There is also a stabbur, a grass-roofed house, that serves as the visitor center and gift shop.

We thank you for your prayers for safety & appreciate all of you!! Hugs!!πŸ’•

Mt Rushmore & Beyond!

Big day today!!

National Presidential Wax Museum

Mt Rushmore

Crazy Horse Monument & then the

Begging Burro for late lunch!

There are so many family things to do in this area!! Custer & Keystone are such cute towns! Loving South Dakota!!

The Black Hills of South Dakota!!

We arrived in Piedmont South Dakota the end of last week! Coming into the State from Wyoming I thought how could it be more beautiful!! Well….let’s just say….it’s as beautiful as Wyoming! We have loved each State we’ve been through and that’s ten States in ten months! Wow has the time flown byyyy!

This is where we will be staying for two weeks & the views out our back window, which is our front room, is so beautiful & peaceful! Then we will be in Rapid City for a month.

Sunday we went to Fountain Springs Church in Rapid City. It’s a church working towards helping the lost & also their community!

Monday we ventured to Deadwood, Sturgis, Ft Meade & the Black Hills National Cemetery. I was thinking Deadwood was going to be like another….Tombstone AZ but it was so much more!! Wild Bill Hickok was shot down in one of the Saloons there & is buried along with Calamity Jane in the beautiful Mt Moriah Cemetery which is up a steep & winding road & overlooks the town! The town is so walkable & has many places for lodging, eating & almost everyone has a casino! Surprising for such a small town!!

Sturgis is also a quaint town that has been having a motorcycle rally since 1938! Yes…thousands of bikers, 500k-700k, will rally in Sturgis the first week in August! They come to compete in races, hill climbs, show off their bikes! It generates about $800 million in revenue for the State of South Dakota!! A few rebel rousers but for the most part just a great time!!

Fort Meade has a VA hospital & medical services & still trains the South Dakota National Guard on some of the beautiful grounds!! We saw them going through some drills & it just makes you proud to be an American!πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

The Black Hills National Cemetery just outside of Sturgis was so touching! All the different areas for representing the different wars. It’s so beautiful with the Black Hills in the background & all the green grass & trees! But each grave has a simple white stone with the soldiers name & dates & war they were in printed on it! The markers look so majestic standing at attention lined up perfectly with the next one!! We shed a few tears of gratitude for their service & sacrifice to make this Country free! God Bless America!πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ˜

This won’t be the last post of South Dakota as we have several more day trips to take!! This State offers so many things to see & do! Stay tuned!! 😎🌳🌲
